We both love and played Hockey, what do you think about us getting married on the Ice at the Rink?

What can we do at the Rink to make it nice? Lights, music??? Skate through a line of hockey stick, like skating under swords?
I thought I’d add. I’m the bride and I taught the groom to play hockey a couple years ago. My maide-of-honor was our team goalie when we were younger and his guys all play hockey.
Ideas and questions for the rink are what i’m looking for. Oh - and my grandfather would get a day pass from the town to marry us. He could do the gig from the DJ box. The ideas are rolling! If you have any good ones, please add your ideas. Thanks All!
I love the zamboni idea. I just saw that my cousins family now owns the rink where I grew up, so the idea just came to me.
We are in the WNY area and this would be at a small city local rink. I’m looking though everyones idea. They are all great, except for putting petals on the ice - that would trash the ice!

All of it sounds good. The stadium will love the PR so they may cut you a deal especially if it is televised.

Hey, whatever floats your boat, just hope the bride doesn’t trip over her dress.

If that works for you, go for it. Will you look back on it in years to come & be satisfied? If so, go for it.

That is awesome!!! I hope everyone whose invited to be in the wedding party skates though.

you could use a net as your altar, with garlands going around the rim of it. most rinks will have some lighting systems you could probably use if you talk to the owners/managers about it. same for the music system.
heck, get creative, see if you can “drive away” in the zambonie! have fun with it!

I am guessing you are a man. Have you dicussed this with your bride.
Let me tell you I love hockey too, the NY Rangers rule my life and my husbands and consquentally my kids lives too. BUT I would never agree to something like this for my wedding.
And I think you would be hard pressed to find an entire bridal party and minister that would agree to do this on skates.
Have your wedding in a church, and your reception in a nice hall, when you enter, have the DJ play the goal song and then the bridal party can hold up the sticks for you to walk under onto the dancefloor.
Save the skates for yor bachelor party, maybe you could have a girls against the guys game or just go with your buddies to an NHL game.

Great idea!!! It’s going to be cold, though, so maybe pass out some hot chocolate for the guests? All the other ideas are brilliant, too!! Have your bridesmaids and groomsman hold up the hockey sticks for you to skate through, then they can join you at the “altar”. This sounds like so much fun.
And you can put down “artificial turf” for the guests so no one falls during the service…LOL! Just leave your area open for skates.

Sounds funky. Go for it. Just make sure Grandma doesn’t break her hip on the ice.

If that’s what will make both of you happy, I say go for it.
Skating through the line of hockey sticks sounds terrific!
I’m sure the rink will love the publicity and do everything reasonable in their power to help two crazy kids celebrate love and skating together. I’d keep the decorations simple. Also, check for restrictions about what you can use and how. Don’t make any decorating plans until you know what you can’t do.
Do they use a live organist or canned music? If it’s live, you can probably hire the organist to play whatever you need.
Now, a couple small, practical details to pay attention to:
1: make sure there’s a good sound system down on the ice, since I imagine most of your guests will not be on skates and you’ll want them to hear the ceremony as well as see it
2: the wedding gown will have to be shorter and without a train, so consider something in a tea length for safety’s sake
3: make sure everyone you ask to be in the wedding party is really good on skates, again, for safety. If the father of the bride isn’t a skater, then it might be best to leave out the giving of the bride, since it’s not necessary for legality.
So, if your intended is pleased with the idea, contact the rink and see what you can work out.
Best of luck and all happiness to you both.

I am a wedding photographer and I think that is awesome! I don’t know of a hockey rink within 1000 miles of me or I would volunteer to do your shots for free just to say I had done a wedding on ice! Everyone around here does the same old boring church wedding. I wonder sometimes where everyones since of adventure and creativity has went. I say go for it. I bet you can make it beautiful! I like the line of hockey sticks! You could even use your teams color as your colors for your wedding. I think it could be wonderful!

It would be cool if the entire wedding party wore ice skates (maybe even the same type of clohting ice dancers wear). Have skates available for all your guests for dancing after the ceremony. Icicle lights would be cute anywhere you could put them. Flower petals would look neat on the ice. Ice sculptures could be incorporated into your reception.

That is a great idea. As hockey fans ourselves we would love to get married on the ice. Have even thought about it. There is a function room above the rink, where our team plays.
Go for it. And the bride should definitely arrive on a decorated zamboni. make sure players are on hand with sticks to bang on the ice when the bride and groom kiss.
Good luck!

That is such a great and original idea. I hope it all works out…congratulations!
